How To Use This Site

Home Page

  • The main window of the home page includes when the next GA is as well as other miscellaneous Occupy news & content. You can comment on these posts by clicking “comments” underneath each post.
The sidebar appears on the right-hand side of every page. It includes:

  • The ability to login or create an account.*
  • Upcoming Occupy Queens events (the GA, working group meetings, actions).
  • A link to donate to help support our rent, printing and other expenses.
  • Our five most recent tweets – find us on Twitter @OccupyQueens.
  • Above the sidebar, there is a search bar.
Additionally, at the very top-left corner of every page there is a “My Account” drop-down menu with a variety of self-explanatory options.

*Creating an account:

  • Creating an account is highly recommended. Without an account, you cannot participate in the “groups” or “forums” (see menu across top of every page). It will also allow you to comment on home page posts without filling out any information.
  • Once you have created an account, you can edit your settings (name, password, email) or add a picture. To do this, click your user name in the sidebar or select “My Account” in the top-left corner of the site and select “Profile.”

Documents

  • Declaration of OWS – this does not necessarily reflect Occupy Queens’ view, as each GA is autonomous.
  • GA Guide – Some information about the direct democracy process known as a general assembly.
  • Minutes – Download minutes to the GAs. [Still being updated.]
  • OWS FAQ – Frequently asked questions about OWS.
  • Principles of Solidarity of OWS – this does not necessarily reflect Occupy Queens’ view, as each GA is autonomous.
  • Why Join Us? – Some of the issues which have inspired us to adopt direct action and direct democracy. This list is not exhaustive.

  • To be redesigned soon.

Proposals [Under Construction]
  • Will soon be updated to reflect any submitted proposals to afford everyone the opportunity to review the proposals prior to the GA. This is highly recommended to improve the efficiency of our limited time together.

Online Community

  • Groups
  • Each group is a discussion board for working groups. If you do not see the working group you are looking for, use the search bar or scroll to the bottom of the page and click the numeral or arrow for the next page.
  • You do not have to join a group on the web to view the posts, but you do need to join the group to contribute.
  • Once you have joined a group, you can create a topic, comment on a topic, like a topic, or mark a post as a favorite. [A “topic” is essentially a post.]

  • Forums
  • Shows the different topics throughout the groups.
  • “Freshness” refers to when the last comment was posted and by whom.
  • “Rating” refers to the number of “likes.”
  • “Order By” allows you to organize the topics by “Last Active,” “Most Posts” (i.e. comments) and “Unreplied” (no one has commented yet).

  • Activity
  • Shows all activity across the site.
  • You can post directly to your profile or the groups you have joined at the top of the page. Use the drop-down menu to select where you want to post.
  • In the gray bar dividing the “What’s new, [name]?” field and the activity are filters. Select “My Groups” to only see activity within the groups you have joined, or the drop-down menu on the right to select the type of activity (e.g. “New Members,” “Forum Replies”).
  • You can click “RSS” in the top-right corner of the activity feed, and then use the web address of the linked page to subscribe to updates in an RSS reader (e.g. Google Reader). This will allow you to follow updates to the site without visiting the site repeatedly.

How To…
  • How To Help – Lists the various ways to contribute – the list is not meant to be exhaustive.

*Messaging

  • Mouseover “My Account” in the top-right corner and then mouseover “Messages.”
This can be used to communicate with other users of the site – useful when you don’t know their email.
If you have any further questions or suggestions, please email internet@occupyqueens.net.

  1. Got a problem here. I’m pretty sure I registered at this site a few weeks ago, though I haven’t been able to make it to any Occupy Queens events. Well I just found the window open and I wasn’t signed in, so I tried to sign in, but my password wasn’t accepted. I then tried asking to have my password went to me, and received an error message telling me that there’s no registration with my email address. This led to me trying to reregister, but when I did that, I was told that there already is an account with my email.

So if my account is in the system, I need to be able to sign on. And if it isn’t, then I need to be able to register. Can you please figure this out for me? Thanks.

    Craig

    • Hello Craig,
Your email doesn’t seem to be in the system. Try resetting your password following the steps when you click “Forgot Password”
If you need further assistance please email internet@occupyqueens.net
      Hope this helps
      David
