Willets Point has caught the eye of the 1%, They see a large tract of ‘underdeveloped’ land and its potential to generate wealth for a select few. It is next to ‘vacant’ land (Flushing Meadows Corona Park) for which they have grand plans for profit as well.

The plan requires that the current inhabitants need to be removed. This is a job for government. Elected officials, members of the 1% themselves or desperately currying favor to fill their war chests, share the same vision spied by the real estate moguls through their myopic viewfinders perched atop the Manhattan skyline. They wield their NEW AND IMPROVED! POWER OF EMANENT DOMAIN to clear out the area – ‘legally.’ The lives and livelihoods of the people, the 99%, who work there are seen merely as an impediment to progress – if they are seen at all.

This is a battle for which the Occupy Movement was born but more shoulders are needed to do the work if we are to succeed. Join Occupy Queens and others as the fight continues.
